A Message About This Account: Continuing Marc’s Mission January 24, 2026
Marc Prensky passed away in 2025, leaving behind ideas that continue to matter.
In August 2024, Marc published Third Millennium Kids, a manifesto for a complete reimagining of how we raise and educate children in an age of exponential technological change. He left behind a book he urgently wanted the world to read and ideas he deeply wanted to spread.
We are the Marc Prensky Legacy Project Team, who worked closely with Marc. In our final conversations, he shared a clear hope that this work would continue for the sake of children and their future. Our children are evolving into something new - what Marc called “Symbiotic Human Hybrids” - and most adults are still trying to raise them for a world that ended on December 31, 1999.
We’re in the middle of archiving and organizing his articles, both published and unpublished. We’re planning to share a curated collection of his work through this Medium account.
A Note About Process
New articles you’ll read here may have been developed with the assistance of AI tools - trained on Marc’s voice, research, and philosophy. This is not an attempt to hide his passing or to replace his thinking. Rather, it reflects exactly what Marc believed: that AI is not the enemy of human creativity but an amplifier of it.
Marc attended AI developer meetings until his health no longer allowed it. He experimented extensively with generative AI and saw it as the next chapter in non-biological human evolution.
As he wrote in his final book: “The relationship between inputs and outputs has been radically changed by AI.” Why would we not use that change to spread ideas that could help millions of children thrive?
Where Marc’s own published words exist, we share them. Where interpretation or expansion is needed, we work with AI tools to explore and express his ideas - always staying true to the core message he spent decades developing. Every piece goes through careful review to ensure it honors his voice and vision.
When we publish articles with the assistance of AI, we will explicitly mention it in the articles.
Why This Matters Now
Marc’s central argument was simple but radical: Adults are the problem, not kids. Technology is not the enemy - our fear of it is.
He saw young people adapting to a world that has changed more in the past 25 years than in the previous centuries. He saw them developing new forms of thinking, new ways of connecting, new capacities for creation and impact.
He also saw adults, terrified by this change, desperately trying to force children back into patterns that no longer serve them.
The result? Skyrocketing rates of youth anxiety and depression. Not because of their cell phones, but because of the profound disconnect between the world we’re preparing them for and the world they’ll actually inhabit.
Marc offered a different path. One based on enthusiasm over compliance. Accomplishment over absorption. “Hell yes!” over “Because I said so.”
A Note from the Team
Losing Marc has been a profound loss for all of us who worked with him and believed in his vision. But watching his ideas continue to spread - seeing parents reconsider their approach, educators reimagine their classrooms, young people feel validated in their instincts about their own future - brings meaning to this grief.
This account is our way of honoring both the man and the mission. If you find value in these ideas, please share them. And most importantly, talk to a young person in your life. Really listen. You might be surprised by what they have to teach you about their world.
